What is The Refuge?
The Refuge is an Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services-certified, faith-based addiction recovery program. We provide 3.1 Low-Intensity Residential Services during the first 30–45 days, after which residents transition into Ohio Recovery Housing certified recovery housing for the remainder of their program. Our focus is on helping men achieve sobriety, rebuild relationships, and move toward healthy, productive lives.Services-certified
Who is eligible to enroll in The Refuge?
The Refuge accepts adult men struggling with addiction. We focus on individuals who are willing to commit to a long-term program and embrace the relational, faith-based approach we offer.
Does The Refuge assist with mental health?
Yes, The Refuge accommodates mental health needs by allowing residents to continue prescribed mental health medications. We also partner with Southwest Healthcare to provide care for those who need additional support. However, residents must be Addiction Primary with Mental Health Secondary to qualify for our program.
Does The Refuge offer medical or mental health services?
Yes. While we are not a clinical facility, residents have access to licensed mental health professionals and physicians who address their medication and symptom management needs.
Are medications permitted at The Refuge?
Yes, prescribed medications for mental health conditions (e.g., anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder) are allowed, provided they are approved by our medical team.
What disqualifies a man from entering The Refuge?
The Refuge is unable to accept individuals who are required to register as a sex offender or have a conviction for arson.
What types of addiction does The Refuge address?
We provide support for individuals struggling with a range of substance use disorders, including alcohol, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other drugs.

Does The Refuge accept clients directly from detox or jail?
Yes, we frequently accept clients transitioning from detox facilities or correctional institutions. We work closely with local providers and facilities to ensure a safe and smooth handoff.
What is the intake process like?
Intake is held at our offices in the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus and includes a complete a biopsychosocial assessment and an Individual Service Plan.
What does it cost to enroll in The Refuge?
There is no cost for participants to enroll in The Refuge. Residents are never billed for treatment services. In the later stages of the program, once men begin working, they contribute by paying a modest rent while living in The Refuge recovery housing.
Does The Refuge provide detox services?
No, we are not a detox facility. We recommend providers send clients to a medical detox prior to admission if withdrawal is a concern.
What makes The Refuge different from other recovery programs?
The Refuge emphasizes relationship-building, accountability, and community support. Unlike short-term or outpatient programs, we provide long-term residential care in a supportive, faith-based environment.
